Our Fate to Insulate

After visits from Neil Kelly & Green Savers, getting an energy audit performed as well as quotes for a wood stove insert & ductless mini-split (heat/cool) system with heat pump, we decided to….insulate the crawlspace!*  Seems like something that should've been done back in '65. TOTAL COST: $3,510

*In great detail, this means: Air seal penetrations between crawlspace & home including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, plates, joints & bypasses.  Remove existing 6 mil black vapor barrier on crawlspace floor & replace.  Wrap waterlines in R11 fiberglass batts, install R30 fiberglass batts to floor cavity, banded to permanently hold in place.  Weather-strip & insulate crawlspace hatch.

(Shot taken of uninsulated crawlspace by the house inspector.  After we moved in, CR went down & cleared this growing vegetation from one of the rear vents.  It was not a fun time.)
